A tough and cruel defeat in the Copa del Rey semifinals (106-108)
1/2 Copa del Rey
Valencia Basket fought until the very last second in an epic battle against Real Madrid to secure their place in the Copa del Rey final at the Roig Arena, but ultimately fell 106-108. A three-pointer from an unleashed Montero in the final quarter with 20 seconds remaining gave them the lead, but two more three-pointers from Hezonja turned the game around, prolonging Valencia's curse against this opponent in the Copa del Rey.
Declas Pedro Martínez
"It's a tough moment for us, given how the game ended. It's hard to make an assessment without focusing on the outcome. We did what we had to do for a long time, taking the game where we wanted, especially in the last quarter. It slipped away because that's the nature of sports and basketball; anything can happen. It went against us, a tough moment, but I'm very proud of two things. First, the players' effort, how they believed in themselves, and it's going to be difficult, but we have to encourage them. And second, I'm going to say something that I think sounds better when you win, but my assistants are tremendous; they did an exceptional job, and it went against us. It's a shame for everyone, but I want to congratulate them on their work, especially today."
